Caffeine constricts blood vessels and helps disperse the fluid that pools under the eyes overnight, which is why it appears in almost every eye product that mentions puffiness. It works quickly and briefly rather than cumulatively, and it does more for morning puffiness than for the shadowing many people mean when they say dark circles.
