Ceramides

Ceramides are the lipids that hold skin cells together and keep water in. Skin loses them with age, with over-cleansing and in conditions like eczema, and a barrier short of ceramides leaks water and lets irritants through. Replacing them addresses the cause of that dryness rather than coating over it, which is why ceramide creams suit dry, sensitive and compromised skin.
