Glycerin

Glycerin is the most-used humectant in skincare, and deservedly so: it is cheap, extremely well tolerated and genuinely effective at drawing water into the upper layers of the skin. It rarely gets top billing, but a formula built on glycerin at a meaningful level will often outperform a more glamorous one that is not.
